Even though we’d generously been given a few weeks to vacate our temporary accommodation, Logan got a bit too excited and started looking for a decent rental for us in Alexandria. The city wasn’t huge, but it was the shortest drive to JARC, the Joint Analysis and Response Center.

A light rain fell outside. I sat by the window and scanned work files, while Logan scoured websites.

“What about this one. Three-bedroom, two-bathroom, two-story house in an allegedly vibrant part of Alexandria. No pets. Available immediately.” I could feel his stare as I read. I paused, looked above the documents and focused on him.

“Remind me why we need three bedrooms again? Also, what if I want a pet? I might like a cat. I’ve never had a cat,” I said, even though I wasn’t even sure I liked cats.

Logan rolled his eyes, then closed them. He exhaled a little dramatically, then leveled those blue beacons at me. “I already know you don’t like cats. Also, we need separate bedrooms for when our families come to visit.”

“Imagine if both our parents come to visit at the same time,” I said, suppressing a grin.

He swiveled on the chair away from the desk, bare-chested, in white shorts, white socks and white trainers. I wanted to comment on the look, but chose not to. “Why would we let both of our parents come at the same time?”

I shrugged, returning to the documents.

He stood and slowly walked over. “So, I’m getting the impression you’re having second thoughts, which is fine, but I’d rather you just say that instead of…”

I put the papers down, turned to him and slid off the bed, then stood.

Our eyes locked for a few seconds, and neither of us spoke. I finally broke, my mouth giving me away before I said anything. “I’m being an ass, sorry. Just giving you a hard time. It’s fine. Can we look at it today?”

You’ll need to be quick. The subscribe button is about to snap up the rental. Hit it hard, then follow the pretty boys and see what happens.
